Pneumatic Bumper

Pneumatic bumper, also called Yokohama fender, has been used in port, harbor, and maritime operations for decades since it was developed in 1958. With the development of ship technology, this product is used extensively in ship-to-ship transfer operations and ship mooring and berthing operations. It’s always regarded as a buffer.

Fully compliant with the ISO17357 standard, Jerryborg’s bumper supplies with a variety of specifications and dimensions to meet customer’s requests and different application conditions.

Pneumatic Bumper Advantage

1. Shape Conformant at Inclined Compression

Mooring bumper is made of reinforced cord layers of high elasticity and flexibility, which enable it to make it shape conformant at inclined compression during ship-to-ship operations. Compared with solid fender and foam fender, the bumper is easier to distribute the load along the ship's body or berthing structure.

2. No Variation or Deformation in Performance

Mooring bumper is filled with the air of compressive elasticity inside, the deformation caused by fatigue is absent. In the experiment below of Pneumatic fender, the performance variation will not happen if the pressure is maintained properly.

Pneumatic Bumper Classification

According to international pneumatic rubber fenders, mooring bumper systems are divided into two categories. From the appearance, there are two types of fenders:

1.Initial Pressure 50 Kpa, P50 pneumatic fender


2.Initial Pressure 80 Kpa, P80 pneumatic fender


3.Type I, CTN Type, with chains and tire nets


4.Type II, Sling Type, without chains and tire nets

Pneumatic Bumper Structure

① Outer rubber layer

This outer rubber compound is strong enough to protect the inner layer and synthetic-cord layer from the damage of external forces and severe weather conditions due to its high elasticity and abrasion resistance.

② Synthetic-tire-cord layer

The Synthetic-tire-cord layer is made of synthetic-tire-cord fabrics, compared with synthetic canvas fabric and synthetic belt fabric, this reinforcement layer performs better in fatigue-resistance and pressure-holding.

③ Inner rubber layer

The inner layer is designed to seal the air inside the fender.
